The Town of Huntington is pleased to announce the operation of a “Mobile Sanitary Waste Pumpout Vessel” which will begin May 24, 2003 and continue through September 14, 2003. This service is available to both resident and transient boaters.

Operation Schedule

The pumpout vessel will be available for services at no charge to vessels at anchor or on moorings on Saturday, Sunday and observed holidays between the hours of 10 A.M. through 8 P.M.; The pumpout vessel will be available for services for boaters in slips between 8:00 A.M. and 10:00 A.M, during the same days, at a fee of $5.00. Boaters wishing to use the services of the Mobile Pumpout Vessel may initiate radio contact on VHF Channel 9 to hail the “Huntington Mobile Pumpout Service.” At that time, a working VHF channel will be identified to the hailing vessel by the “Huntington Mobile Pumpout Service”.

Communication with the “Huntington Mobile Pumpout Service” should be specific; identifying the precise location of your vessel, name / numbers, color, significant identifying features (i.e. pennant on the radio antenna, flag, etc.) to make recognition more timely. Boaters should identify the approximate capacity of their holding tank. Where practical, response to boaters will be on a “first call / first response basis” however said response will be determined based on the existing product carrying capacity of the pumpout vessel. Boaters should have appropriate fendering in place with “waste fitting” accessible and ready to receive the pumpout vessel upon arrival.

The mobile pumpout vessel will only provide service is limited to areas within the greater Huntington – Northport Bay complex.

Boaters, perhaps more than many others, are aware of and concerned about the health of our coastal waters. While not a major source of pollution, boaters can contribute to the problem, especially in enclosed shallow embayments where boats tend to congregate.

The potential for pollution from boaters sewage discharges is of particular concern as this waste may contain disease-causing bacteria and viruses that can contaminate shellfish beds and swimming areas.
