Huntington Town officials held a July 4th Safe Boating Press Conference on June 30th in Halesite. They were joined by GHCYBC Commodore Ed Carr, Rear Commodore Dr. Janine Burns and Council Rep Joe McMenoman. Speaking in the photo is Gina Lieneck, who advocated for the passage of Brianna’s Law, named for her daughter, who lost her life to a speeding intoxicated boater. Locally, the Boating Council launched Safe Boating Week after another tragedy, ten years ago on July 4th, in which three children died. Speakers at the press conference conveyed the severity of boating while intoxicated and encouraged boat captains and passengers to maintain safety awareness. Standing Left to Right are Suffolk Legislator Stephanie Bontempi, Huntington Supervisor Ed Smyth, Sr. Huntington Bay Constable Jeff Kropp, Gina Lieneck, County Comptroller John Kennedy, Joe McMenoman, Ed Carr and Janine Burns.
