Sagamore Rowing Association Finds Safe Harbor in Huntington

After years of absence in the Huntington Community Sagamore Rowing is back! Housed in Oyster Bay for the last 20 years, a sudden change in the Oyster Bay RFP process found the rowing club without a home. The Boating Council quickly came to their assistance when they learned in the spring that they would need to vacate their Oyster Bay Boathouse by August 20th, well before the conclusion of rowing season. Mooring Permit Enforcement in Lloyd Harbor – On the weekend of July 24th many of our clubs and club members were notified by the Lloyd Harbor Bay Constable that the current policies for private and club moorings in Lloyd Harbor would be strictly enforced beginning August 1, resulting in fines and additional mooring fees for multiple boat usage of PRIVATE moorings. The Greater Huntington Council of Yacht and Boating Clubs interceded and was able to negotiate a compromise for the remainder of the 2021 boating season. TOH Issuing Mooring Permits After Village Lawsuit Settled – The lawsuit brought by the Villages of Huntington Bay and Lloyd Harbor against the Town of Huntington, temporarily preventing the Town from issuing mooring permits for boats moored within 1,500 feet of Incorporated Village shorelines, was settled on June 21, lifting the temporary restraining order on the issuance of such mooring permits. Boating Community Lost Avid Supporter

On August 12th, 2020, the boating community lost an avid supporter and contributor and a dear friend. Jon L. Ten Haagen was born on September 5, 1945 and grew up in the Glen Head area of Long Island. As a youngster he participated in sailing regattas at the Sea Cliff Yacht Club. He would later establish a scholarship fund in his deceased parent’s names for participants in this prestigious race.
