Lawmakers Push To Pass Ryan’s Law January 25, 2019 | The Long Islander – Members of Huntington’s delegation to the state legislature are looking to pass legislation they hope will prevent boating accidents on state waterways. The legislation, known as Ryan’s Law, is named for 12-year-old Ryan John Weiss who was tragically killed in July 2017 during an instructional boating lesson in the waters off Centerport Yacht Club. The legislation mirrors a Suffolk County law passed last year requiring all motorboats used to instruct children under the age of 18 have a propeller guard installed around the vessel propeller. Community Collects Some Relief For Coasties January 21, 2019 | The Long Islander – As the government shutdown enters its fourth week, private sector relief is finding its way to furloughed federal workers, including local Coast Guardsmen stationed at Eaton’s Neck. A drive hastily organized by Seymour’s Boatyard owner Dave Weber with help from Northport Fire Department brought in thousands in donated gas and grocery store cards along with monetary donations over the course of a weekend.
